How to make a GIF from a video
- Choose a video up to 100 MB. Supported codecs depend on your browser, so an MP4 or WebM that plays in the preview is the best starting point.
- Choose a start time and up to 12 seconds of footage. Set a GIF width and frame rate; smaller values usually make a smaller file.
- Convert, preview the animation and download it. The result has no audio and uses a 256-color palette.
Why is my GIF larger than the video?
GIF is an older animation format with limited compression and color. It often produces a larger file than MP4 or WebM. Shorten the clip or lower its width and frame rate if you need a smaller result. The maximum GIF output is 25 MB.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Decoding and GIF encoding happen in the isolated browser workspace. This public page may load analytics and advertising code, but it cannot read the video selected in the workspace.
