How to add a signature to a PDF

To add a visual signature to a PDF, open an unsigned file in PDFSpruce and choose Edit PDF. Draw your signature or insert a signature image, position it, and export. This creates a visible mark, not a certificate-backed digital signature or identity-verified signing record.

Place a visible signature on an unsigned PDF using a freehand drawing or a signature image. Both your document and the image are handled in your browser.

Step by step

  1. Open an unsigned PDF and choose Edit PDF. Navigate to the page with the signature area.
  2. Choose Draw signature to draw your mark, or Image / signature to insert an image. Position and size it within the intended space.
  3. Add any needed text, such as a printed name or date. Return to Organize pages, export and check the downloaded PDF.

Before you export

This adds a visual signature. It does not provide a certificate-backed digital signature, identity verification or an audit trail. Already digitally signed PDFs are not supported. Check the recipient’s required signing process before using a visual signature.

A useful tip

A tightly cropped signature image is easier to position than a photograph of an entire sheet of paper. Keep the original document and review every page before sending your signed copy.

Where are my files processed?

Your documents stay in your browser’s memory. PDFSpruce does not upload your PDFs, filenames, previews or document text. Download your finished work before closing or refreshing the editor. See our privacy information for details about website requests.
